  3. To our Brian, BD, Lewie,
Thank you for sharing over 20 years with me and our families. You and Mum lived life to the fullest during your time together with trips all over Australia and Canada. How you both managed those trips between your mechanics, biodynamic grape growing, CFA commitments and love of Fordson tractors amazed me.
Your late night call ins with Mum for a much needed coffee and chat after a trip somewhere were always enjoyed. Luckily you always popped in with fish n chips from your favourite Kerang shop and drinks coke as it was always after our dinner times.
You were there for so many precious moments for me with my mum and our families and I thank you for sharing them all with us xx

  6. Brian, I have only known you for a few short years during my time with Becs family. Over this time, we always managed to have small conversations about life, and nearly every time, you always agreed with what I was talking about…I will miss those times.
I promised before you left this world, that I will fix your mother’s fridge, and will be proudly displayed for all to see, of course in Fordson blue. It will always have a coke in there…just for you.
    You will be dearly missed.

  23. Dear Brian, thankyou for being such a great support to myself and my family over many years. Our lives have been enriched having you as a bonus father and grandfather.
During so many visits to Nyha (as we call it ;) you let us invade your home, filling up your house with all our stuff, noise and laughter. Sometimes you couldn’t get at seat at your own table. You certainly liked our visits more if I made you a cake or something sweet. The boys loved playing on your lush green grass, throwing big clods of red dirt in the paddock and wandering about looking at all your projects and rusty treasures. I loved going for walks in the bushland, down the river, and around the vines and going home with a boot full of pumpkins, sultanas and other yummy fruits and veggies which you and Mum had tended.
We enjoyed getting your emails with photos of where you and Mum had made some whirlwind, drive half-the-night trip, in-between mechanic-ing, farming and volunteering. As well as the emails with photos of birds and plants found on the block, which you asked me to identify. So many lovely memories and things we will miss.
Why did that wretched ‘Jack Dancer’ choose you to party with? You’re not even one to drink or smoke.
I was walking about your shed the other day, it is so quiet now, and your friend Willie the Wagtail came and asked me where you are…

  24. There will always be those things I think about from when I went to BD’s house. Brian’s amazingly fancy Plastic Cheese that we’d melt to crackers, joking about having to pull down the paddie-whack stick with Brian, playing soccer on the grass, always seeing Brian chatting under the shade tree with his mates that always randomly popped over to have some coffee and every wintery morning having a massive bowl of porridge with heaps of honey. A lot of things will change now, but I hope some things stay the same so that it’s like he’s still there some days, the porridge, the plastic cheese, the sound of the news on the TV when he came in from a hard day of work and the CFA radio blaring callouts every now and again. I will miss Brian and those little things he brought to my life.

  32. Brian & Dad,
Condolences to Mum ( Dorothy ) Sherry & Jodie, Grant, Daniel & Adrian.
Also the Hewitt family; Helen, Lindsay, Naomi, Bronwyn, Geoff, Becky & Christie, partners & families.
A very talented, knowledgeable, hard working, dedicated man has left us, the community & the Nyah district.
A highly skilled, talented, knowledgeable tradesman who has accomplished so much & taught a few a lot over many years.
A Bio – Dynamic farmer who produced hay, pumpkins, zucchinis & grapes. And turned them into most delicious sultanas for the health food market. And also sold other varieties on to be turned into wine.
A very dedicated man to the local community, groups & especially his beloved Country Fire Association. Always a function to attend to represent, a gate to man for a community event, some more training, a meeting, Sunday morning inspections & radio checks & service to the community when there was a fire.
A man who loved his Holden cars & Fordson tractors.
We are all for the better & enriched from having you in, learning from you & being a part of our lives.
We may not have always got along & had our differences, but none of us expected this. You were so fit, healthy & active. I am still in shock & will be now forever. Rest in peace Dad, you’ve earnt it. God bless you. Love always & will miss you now forever. Roger.

  33. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Helen and the Lewis Family.
Brian will always be remembered as being one our best biodynamic farmers. I remember walking on his place and noticing the beautiful soft soil under my feet and with great pride he would dig a fork of soil up, to reveal a wonderfully structured soil with a deep rich colour. His vines were always in perfect health and well maintained. l was always welcomed with a cup of coffee and a yarn which was always full of truth and wisdom. Brian was always very encouraging of my work and was a true pioneer in our BD Association, he will be sadly missed.
    RIP Brian.

  34. To Brian,
On behalf of the members of the Bio Dynamic Agricultural Association of Australia,
Our deepest condolences to Helen, family, and friends of Brian BD Lewis.
Brian, you knew the meaning of “it’s a hard row to hoe”, with true grit and often sometimes with lonely solace you farmed Bio Dynamically.
The produce you and Helen grew is held in high regards in the marketplace and with family and friends.
We can make mention of your exceptional mechanical skills but it’s the connectiveness with the land and purpose we knew you so well for. We have lost a valued member of the Bio Dynamic Agricultural Association.
Brian you will be sadly but fondly missed by all.
    RIP

  37. Brian – Lewy,

I simply couldn’t believe that you were gone when I was told about it. You just never seemed to age. To me you looked the same for over 40 years!

I had known you all my life through your association with our old man, but I also got to know you as a friend in my adult life. I spent a considerable amount of time there as a kid – knocking around with Roger on motorbikes, and yes I remember that you never liked the motorbikes much.

An incredibly gifted old school mechanic with an incredible ability to recall things off the top of your head. Many a cup of coffee enjoyed under the tree at your shed and problems of the world discussed.

I learned a lot from you which has been invaluable to me when racing speedway and in my job.

My sincere condolences to Helen who is just a beautiful person and extremely hard worker over many years.

Condolences to Roger, Sherry and Jodie and also to the Hewitt family.

May those incredibly gifted and hardworking hands take a well earned rest.

    Thanks Lewy.

    Mick Mannix and family.
